HOW WILL AI CHANGE THE FUTURE OF THE MOBILE INDUSTRY IN 2020?

By Radeep Makhija

I want you to imagine your day without Artificial Intelligence on your smartphones. So, Google maps will become inefficient because they won’t be able to tell you the best route to your destination. Even worse? Your google assistant won’t listen to you. And well, as far as online shopping is concerned you won’t have a customized product recommendations list and no personal assistant to sort your queries.

Sounds scary, right? However, that’s not going to happen because in the future the presence of AI is going to become more intense in our lives. Research from saga says – AI market will be worth $60 billion by 2025. Deloitte Global predicts – By 2020, 95 out of the top 100 largest software companies will see the integration of cognitive technologies into their products.

What we need to understand is AI affects all aspects of our lives.

From healthcare, entertainment, education to e-commerce and technology. And all this is bound together by our smartphones. Because it is through our smartphones we leverage these technologies. Let’s explore the ways in which AI can change the mobile industry (mobile app development)-

IoT

The Internet of Things is the technology that connects our physical world with the digital world. AI is essentially changing the scenario by collecting real-time data and processing it. This enables mobile apps to learn each time an information exchange takes place among the devices so that they (apps) can finally take necessary action.

Medical technology

Medical imaging – it is a process where visual representations of the interior of a body are created for purposes such as clinical analysis and medical intervention. Here, the ability of smartphones to recognize the images will make it a tool for diagnostics (at home).

Medical data

Our smartphone app carries a considerable amount of information about our physical health. This data combined with the ability of AI to extract information from medical records can result in taking preventive measures and healthcare solutions that we can’t even imagine yet.

E-commerce

The AI-powered search technology on it is nothing short of a boon for e-commerce. Why? Because now the search is not limited to keywords. It rather goes beyond it and understands the contextual meaning behind those search terms.

Retail

The recent breakthrough in retail is that customers can now shop without having to scan their products or check-out for that matter. This will check the problems of thefts and will also prevent losses due to technical glitches. For now, there are 11 AmazonGo stores in operation – that have gone cashier-less.

Logistics

Logistics handling is no longer done by humans alone. As the complications have increased, robotics has become involved in the field. With AI, robotics enables tracking, locating, and efficient moving of the inventory. The management of the warehouses is thus greatly enhanced.

Gaming

It is estimated that by the end of 2019, the global gaming industry will be of $152 billion worth. The interesting part? 45% of it, that is $68.5 billion, comes from mobile games.</>

AI contains the ability to amplify the visual quality of the games. This will make the environment and character of the game more natural. Voice assistant offers an interactive gaming session. How? It facilitates access to the game menu without having to go back each time. AI enables the creation of realistic game worlds that are personalized as per the taste of players.

Business

In the business expanse, AI is known to tweak services in a way that the customers receive personalization and convenience both. The elements that will make a difference range from chatbots, 24X7 support to Virtual assistance, and self-help VR systems. All this becomes effective because AI works on a massive volume of data that enables it to recognize customer’s patterns, behavior, and past actions.

Marketing: As per research – by 2020, 30%+ companies will leverage AI to enhance their sales. Why? See, marketing needs huge amounts of data and it is not feasible for the human workforce to collect, process, and maintain it. Here is where AI scores. It helps in researching and analyzing the market and the user journey and also eliminating errors. This leads to better sales and enhances engagement rates.

Some other specific changes Personalized Apps:

AI into mobile apps offers searches based on locations. There is enough data such as user’s purchase history, patterns, shopping behavior, preferences, etc. that providing a personalized app has become easier than ever. Now the user doesn’t have to keep on scrolling to reach what he/she is looking for. Personalized solutions will reduce time and enable users to explore more as per their tastes.

Personalized answers:

The ability of voice assistants to offer personalized answers will increase multifold. We all already experience this. Ask your virtual assistant app about the weather, news, information on any particular topic, or even your schedule – it will tell you all. As it is integrated with other applications of your smartphone, you can ask it to order a pizza, play your favorite song, or send an email, it will do it all – without you lifting your finger.

Voice Push Notifications

Push notifications have always been an effective means to re-engage existing users with an app. These notifications often come to us in the form of texts. It is only now that Google Assistant and Alexa have enabled voice-based push notifications wherein they can send notifications for any third-party app.

Chatbots

Uncompromised customer service is something businesses cannot afford to go wrong with. It is difficult for an executive to be available 24*7 and answer the same set of questions time and again. Here chatbots can help to make the process more efficient than ever before.

It is expected that their scope will widen and they’ll be able to give more specific and personalized answers.

Image Labeling-

Artificial intelligence enables the labeling of images that are present in a haphazard manner. They recognize the pattern and similarities of these images and label them under groups based on shapes, regions, pixels, etc. This is not only helpful for individuals but also for corporates as they now have an AI-sorted collection.

Security:

AI facilitates cybersecurity better than any other tool. As it recognizes the patterns, it will report an anomaly in the same. Also, the predictive analysis will let us know of any possible threats so that prior steps can be taken to eliminate the loopholes.

Applications currently in use

We all know how Siri, Alexa, or Cortana have changed our world. But there are so many more AI-powered applications that are continuing to transform our lives in their own right.

Here are two of them (so you can imagine what you can expect in the future)

Replika – This app serves in many different ways. But it’s most exciting feature is its ability to have conversations with you like a real human and not a bot.

Seeing AI – This highly regarded AI-based app enables visually challenged people to interact with their environment in a better manner.

Wrapping up – 2020 will be a year of revolution for the mobile industry. Now you know why I am saying this! With technologies widening in their scope and potential, it is only obvious that the mobile industry will expand unlike ever before to bring out the best of experiences for all of us through apps.
